Teaching Like Angels

So I'm staying in the San Bernardino 2nd Ward with Elder Loertscher for another transfer! This transfer should be awesome, we are teaching so many awesome people and I just know things will go good!

My Memorial Day was very good. We did our usual P-Day stuff other than e-mailing of course! But it was good! I was able to take a really nice nap! ;D We also went to a members home and had a BBQ which was super good.

What do you mean I didn't tell you about the Zone Conference? I thought I mentioned it! :/ Isn't that where I brought up to teach like an angel? Well, what that means is to teach like the angel in 1 Nephi 11 where the angel shows Nephi things and asks him what he sees, then based off what Nephi says the angel teaches him. We do something similar with our little pamphlets and it is really cool. (Pictures from Zone Conference *here* )

So we have another investigator on his way to being baptized, hopefully on the Fourth of July. :) His name is M and he is 17. He is super awesome! He has been having some opposition from his family, so that has been hard but he is still hanging in there.

I'm excited for this next transfer, a lot of good things should be happening. I've got pictures for you next time. (I forgot my camera :/) I hope you all have a good week!! I love you all lots!!

"Super" Gifts!

Hey, I got a cool new shirt from a member the other day! It was so nice of them and you'll see that I love it! :D

So this week was a good week! We are continuing to apply the planning activities that we learned at MLC (Mission Leadership Conference) and that has been going well! We also learned how to teach like angels!! It is so cool! haha I'll let you know more about that next week. haha :P

It has been super hot all week so not many people have been out and about. But for some reason it really doesn't feel THAT hot when we are out biking around. Maybe the sun has been getting to me, I don't know haha :P

It has been really cool to talk with people on the street. We are constantly getting impressions to go to different places and lo and behold a thought pops into our heads that is the exact thing that that person needed to hear! I can testify that the spirit really works and those promises in the scriptures about His help in missionary work really do come true!

We were able to pick up one new investigator this week so that was good. He is friends with a few of our other investigators. Things are looking up in this ward, it will be interesting to see what happens next transfer which is coming up in a week!

Love you and miss you all!

Elder Barker, Junior, Elder Loertscher, Bro. Atkinson

It was so awesome to Skype yesterday for Mother's Day! It made me feel so good to see you all! :D Now I can't wait for Christmas!!!! So nothing much has changed since I talked with you last. haha

Let me tell you about Junior's baptism, it was awesome! Our font just had a new water heater installed and the cold water doesn't work because the pipes are bad, so the only water it could pump in was HOT water! We had to hold a hose up to the sink and spray it down with COLD water just enough to cool it off and get the steam out of there! It took 2 1/2 hours to fill and it was still only barely enough water for Junior to be baptized in! And it was like being baptized in a hot tub!

Junior is such a funny guy, he's like a big teddy bear. Every time he hugs you, he likes to pick you up, It's so funny! :D He's an awesome guy, and the baptism went really well and we are very excited for him. He was confirmed yesterday.

We had another investigator at church yesterday, she is a 14 year old girl and her mom used to tell her that she couldn't come to church but she came yesterday and it was great! We are still working with D. too.

I was invited to something really cool this past week, it's called MLC, or Mission Leadership Conference. The head of the Proselyting division of the church was there. We talked about how to use Preach My Gospel more effectively. They had a lot of really cool training and it was great! We are applying these things better and planning a lot better as a result of this training.

It's been fun being in San Bernardino, can you believe that I've been out for 8 months now?!?  I'm so grateful for this opportunity to learn and grow like I am. I left a boy, but I'll come back a MAN!! haha I just made that up :D Thank you so much for helping me come to this point Momma! I LOVE YOU!!! XOXOXO

Well, that's about it for now. Have a great week!

Missionary Goodies??

That is so exciting for Kameron! That is the most interesting way to open a mission call that I've ever heard! haha I can't wait to get his letter. So this week was full of missionary goodies... let me explain. So the money you transferred, I had to use to buy new shoe laces for my shoe. Because it got caught in my bike and it snapped! And while I was at Payless, I bought some shoe inserts because my shoes are so worn down from walking!

That didn't leave me a lot to by a pump, not to mention the flat tire I had to fix (but I'll talk a little more about that later) So I bought a cheap little plastic one and it already broke on me!! I'm going to try and return it. I could use a little more money. :) Thank you for all that you do for me, it is great!

Okay, so here is what my week was like! On Monday we talked to a guy who belongs to a church that has an Apostle at it's head. That was very interesting, because it was almost like talking to a member of the church, only... very antagonistic!  All he wanted to do was Bible bash with us and was so set on doing that that he would not take the Book of Mormon.

It always amazes me how people react when we pull out the Book of Mormon. Some people are so afraid of the Book of Mormon that they won't even take the book let alone read it and pray about it. It seems to me that the Book of Mormon is the key. There is a reason why we call it the keystone of our religion! If they would just read it they would be able to feel the power that comes from its words.

Anyway that was Monday! The rest of the week we spent visiting members and less actives, so we got a lot of lessons with them so that was good. We also did service at Sister Stratton's home. That is where I take most of my pictures by the way :P haha But we spent a lot of time fixing flat tires! We just had a wave of flats this week! But luckily we found a very nice bike shop that sells some nice tubes!

Something else that is very exciting is that J. is getting baptized on Saturday!! We got everything finalized and his interview went well, so it is a go! That will be exciting!

I love you all lots, have a good week!  I can't wait to talk with you guys on Sunday for Mother's Day!!

See you on Sunday!
