The Spirit Can Soften Hearts

Life in San B. has been really good! What is my favorite part of San B.? Well I don't know if I have just one. San Bernardino is a very unique place. It has a lot of things that I will always remember. Some things we see on a regular basis are Ice cream trucks, kiddie pools in every front yard and we hear a lot of gangsta mariachi music. But there are lots and lots of other interesting things I'll never find anywhere else! It is a lot of fun serving here and I love the people here more and more!

A lot of this week was about cleansing the inner vessel and trying to apply myself even greater to the work. Most of that is trying to make sure that I'm able to have the spirit with me when I teach because that is most important! I feel that Elder Loertscher and I were able to do that really well this week! We had some very spiritual lessons this week!

I think that my favorite part of this week is when we brought our investigator Karina and her Dad to the Redlands Temple, that was an amazing experience! We were able to bring them into the waiting room for a bit and let them just feel the spirit. Karina's Dad started talking about how he had this weird feeling in his chest and how at peace he felt. We took him outside and taught him about the restoration and he accepted the invitation to be baptized and he badly wanted a Book of Mormon. It was so cool! That strengthened my testimony that the spirit can soften hearts.

We also had a experience where a guy came out of his house and tried to argue with us about the Bible. It was really cool because we were able to take Elder Hollands advice and defend our beliefs with courtesy, It really softened his heart. He told us that we weren't like some other Mormons he had met and that we were brothers in Christ. He invited us back to teach him! This has been a great week! Love you all!

P.S. We went to Crestline today for a hike! There was this cool little heart shaped pool!

Faith, Blessings and Pioneers

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOOOOO YOUUUU!!!! HAAPPPYYY BIIRTHDAYY TOOOO YOUUUU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAYYYY DEAR DADDDDDYYYYY!!! HAAAPPPYYYY BIIIRTTHDAAAY TOOOO YOUUUU!!!! I hope that you have a great birthday Daddy. My present to you will have to be very late and hopefully it will be good! I realized the other day we missionaries are really poor people! :)

It looks like McKenna had a good time on trek! That's so fun! With it being pioneer week this week and all I think we should be able to dress up like pioneers and "old style" preach it for a day! But I have a feeling that won't happen! :D

This week was good. It is funny that you should mention faith because that has been something that I have been studying a lot lately and trying to apply more in my missionary efforts. As I've been exercising my faith, I've just seen the blessings of the Lord pour out upon us! Such as one of our newest investigators getting a free car just  as we started teaching her and inviting her to church! And we were finally able to meet with Joanna and her family (a Potential, now new investigator) and teach her about the restoration.

Also, we put Miguel and Karina on date for baptism again for August and also their daughter Celeste. They are excited to be baptized but just need to be married. We are bringing them to the temple so hopefully that will jump start them on that marriage!

We have a ton of investigators on date for baptism and it is super awesome! We just need to get them to church and we will be golden! We really have been seeing the blessings of the Lord pour out upon us in our work. Life in San B. is just as exciting as always!

I love you lots and hope you have a great week! Have a great birthday Dad!!!!

Truths of The Book of Mormon

That is so exciting that Kameron and Jake spoke on the same day! I feel really bad because I was always meaning to write Jake back, but I kept forgetting! Tell him I'm sorry and to write me again so I can remember this time! Ah Kameron is going to be an awesome missionary!! I'm so excited! I will have to get his email address really quick! Tell him before he goes I say HHHHEEEEEELLLLLOOOOOOO!!!!! :D haha

That is so awesome you were able to see some of my friends! I really miss Corbyn's guts! I'll have to send him a email today or something. I loved seeing the pictures of everyone!

This week was really good. We found two new investigators, we actually put one of them, Isaac, on date for baptism already. The other, Paul, lives at this half way house... that is a fun place.

We also put a family of three on date for baptism this week as well. There names are Aldo, Anna, and Mario! They are super awesome. Aldo was telling us he knows that the Book of Mormon is true because when he prayed about it he had a very special dream. He wouldn't tell us what it was about, all he would say was "I know it is true." We could feel the spirit so strongly right there!

We felt like Ammon in front of King Lamoni when King Lamoni says what ever you tell me, I will believe. Aldo said the same thing to us! Since I've been studying the Book of Mormon with certain experiences we have had I've been noticing more and more similarities between what the missionaries in the Book of Mormon went through and what we go through. Some are the exact same or very similar experiences or reactions we get! Such as Elder Loertscher being offered someone's wife to marry after standing up for our beliefs! :P

Our week has been a good one, but it has been very interesting! With Just Serve getting up and running we will be serving in the community more and more. We are still taking that bamboo out of that guys yard! That stuff is so crazy!!! All the roots are connected so we have to chop it into sections and then pull it out and if we leave it for more than a week it all just grows right back! That stuff is the fastest growing stuff I have ever seen! But it is fun!

Well, I hope you all have a great week and I love you!

Transfers.Service.BikeCrash

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR MOMMA!!!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU!! hehehe I hope that you are having a good birthday Momma!!

So for this new transfer.... everything is staying the same. I'm staying in the San B. 2nd Ward with Elder Loertscher. That will be good because we will probably be able to baptize some of our investigators this transfer! That will be good!!

This week has been hot a bit, I believe it got to the 100's one of the days this last week. We are doing our best to stay cool. At least you've got basements to flee to in Utah! But it has been good. We really don't notice it much.

Last Sunday we sang "Joseph Smith's First Prayer" to the tune of "Come thou Fount".  :) Here's some pictures from our day of service cutting Bamboo! We are going to be participating in a program called Just Serve. It will be awesome and there will be more opportunities for service to come in the future.

This week has been a tough one for lessons, we weren't able to teach that much. But it was good in a lot of other ways. Miguel and Karina came with their family to both the 4th of July Breakfast and to church. They really liked it and I think they will be happy that we are staying. Cesar also came to church and stayed all 3 hours,  he is getting more and more involved with the young men so that is good.

I hit my 10 month mark! Isn't that super crazy!?! It looks like I will be close to hitting my year mark in San Bernardino! Crazy!

So things are going good, except for my bike...  I might have gotten ran over by a large guy on a bike that might have bent my front wheel out of shape.... Ya.... Life in San B. He happened to hit a light pole on his bike and bounced off and hit me on mine. That was super fun! :P But he is okay, so that is good.
What more could happen to this poor bike...
Well, I hope you have a great birthday Momma! I love you all!!!

Love,

Elder  Barker
